As a Doula, I Do Not:
I encourage you to interview multiple doulas! Just like all birth experiences and desires are different, so are all doulas. Take the time to find one who understands your concerns and wants. Most importantly, choose a doula who you feel comfortable with! I will gladly meet with you and your partner to see if I am a good fit for what you desire as you embark on your birth journey.
My fee includes 1-2 prenatal visits, where we will create your birth plan, discuss comfort measures, and I will ensure you and your partner have the tools you need as you journey through your pregnancy. I can also attend a caregiver appointment with you.
Phone & E-mail Support
Throughout your pregnancy, I will be available by phone and e-mail for any questions or concerns you may have.
When you are ready, I will meet you at your home or the birthing location of your choosing. In early labor, when you may not yet want the presence of a doula, I will still be available by phone for guidance and encouragement.
Baby’s First Feeding
If you have made the decision to breastfeed, I will offer support during your first feeding after birth.
As your doula, I will also connect you with other community resources that could benefit you and your partner during and after your pregnancy. These resources include things such as prenatal massage, childbirth education, lactation support, and baby wearing.
Perform any clinical tasks
I am not a medical professional, so I do not perform any clinical tasks. I am trained to help you and your partner prepare for your birth, and to support you both physically and emotionally during the birth process.
Make decisions for you
You are the decision-maker in childbirth. I can offer suggestions of alternatives, and explain procedures you may be unsure about. I will help you find the information needed to make your own decision, and I will support you in any decision you make.
Speak to the staff on your behalf
I will help you process through risks, benefits, and alternatives as you make informed choices so that you can feel confident and comfortable with the decisions made, and be able to express them to staff on your own behalf.
Project any of my own beliefs onto your experience
Whatever shape you want your birth experience to take, I will work alongside you to reach that goal. I will support you in the decisions you make for yourself and your family.
My fee also includes 2 postpartum follow-up visits. The first will take place within the first few days after birth, the second approximately two weeks after birth. At these visits, we will discuss your birth experience, how you and your baby are adjusting, feeding issues, and anything else that will help you and your baby as you move into life together.
Take over your partner's role of primary support
Unless the partner is absent or chooses not to participate in this way, I will not replace your partner during your birth experience. Instead, it is my job to help your partner participate more fully. I am able to provide your partner with informational support as your labor progresses, which can help ease any worries they may be having. I will help them know how to care for you as you go through labor, and can help ease any pressure they may be feeling about being your only support person. I can also give your partner a guilt-free break to go to the bathroom or grab a snack!
